The tables containing data on deaths registered for the week ending 9 February 2024 were released at 9.30am today.
Key points
Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 9 February 2024 (week 6) was 409, 52 more than the previous week, and also 60 more than the 2019-2023 5-year average (349).
- 14 deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate were registered in week 6 of 2024, two more than the previous week. These represented 3.4% of all deaths registered in that week.
- For 2024, by 9 February, 48.6% of deaths were males and 51.4% were females. Just over two-thirds (67.9%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- From week 1 of 2024, to the week ending 9 February, there have been 2,339 deaths registered. 1,106 (47.3%) of these took place in hospital, 446 (19.1%) in care homes and 787 (33.6%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 9 February (including those registered up to and including 14 February 2024) was 272.
