Over 11,500 vehicles failed to attend for MOT

New official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Department for Infrastructure present Driver, Vehicle, Operator and Enforcement Statistics for the second quarter of 2025/26, covering the period from July to September 2025.
Key findings
- The DVA delivered 266,924 vehicle tests this quarter, 3.7% (10,174) fewer than the same quarter in 2024/25.
- Vehicle test applications increased by 10.6% (29,511) compared to the same period last year, with 309,058 applications received.
- Online booking reached a record high, with 96.5% of vehicle test applications made through the DVA online system.
- A total of 11,581 vehicles failed to attend a booked vehicle test, 17.4% higher than the same quarter last year.
- Vehicle test pass rates ranged from 77.3% in Downpatrick to 84.4% in Belfast (Balmoral), with an overall rate of 80.4% for private cars.
- Licensed vehicle stock in Northern Ireland reached a record 1,328,860 vehicles at the end of June 2025, an increase of 1.4% on the previous quarter.
- The DVA conducted 17,839 driving tests, 2.4% fewer than the same quarter in 2024/25, with 82.4% being for private cars.
- At the end of September 2025, there were 1,196,137 full and eligible licence holders with private car/light vans entitlement, which is the highest on record.
