The tables containing data on deaths registered for the weeks up to week ending 12 December 2025 were released at 9.30am today.
Please note that there will be no weekly deaths publication on 26th December or 2nd January. The next publication will be on 9th January and that will include the final two weeks (weeks 51 and 52) of 2025 and the first week of 2026 (week 1).

Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 12 December (week 50) was 389, 16 more than the previous week (373).
- The number of expected deaths for week 50 was estimated at 393, using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 50 was estimated at -4.
- For the week ending 12 December 2025, the provisional number of deaths was 186 for males and 203 for females.
- The number of expected deaths was estimated at 200 for males and 193 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at -14 for males and 10 for females, using the current method.
- For 2025, by 12 December, 50.9% of deaths were males and 49.1% were females. Approximately two-thirds (66.6%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- In 2025, by 12 December, there have been 17,116 deaths registered. 7,881 (46.0%) of these took place in hospital, 2,996 (17.5%) in care homes and 6,239 (36.5%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.
- The number of deaths mentioning flu and/or pneumonia on the death certificate registered in week 50 2025 totalled 82, bringing the total for 2025 so far to 3,079.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 12 December (including those registered up to and including 17 December 2025) was 349.
