Weekly deaths tables – week ending 15 November 2024

The tables containing provisional data on deaths registered for the week ending 15 November 2024 were released at 9.30am today.   

Finalised weekly deaths for 2023 have been published today including the model-based estimates of expected deaths. Data from 2011 to 2023 is available on the historical weekly deaths web page. 

Key points 

 

Date of registration

  • The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 15 November 2024 (week 46) was 337, 13 less than the previous week.
  • The number of expected deaths for week 46 was estimated at 397 using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 46 was estimated at -60.
  • For the week ending 15 November 2024, the number of expected deaths was estimated at 200 for males and 197 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at -22 for males and -38 for females, using the current method.
  • For 2024, by 15 November, 51.2 % of deaths were males and 48.8 % were females.  Almost two-thirds (64.6 %) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
  • From week 1 of 2024, to the week ending 15 November, there have been 15,771 deaths registered. 7,268 (46.1 %) of these took place in hospital, 2,582 (16.4 %) in care homes and 5,921 (37.5 %) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.

 

Date of death

  • The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 15 November (including those registered up to and including 20 November 2024) was 258.
