Weekly death registrations in Northern Ireland, 2020.

A dashboard containing some of the key weekly death statistics is also available.  

The weekly tables due for release on 23rd October 2020 will contain a new table showing all deaths in 2020 by place of death and week.

A separate statistical report providing analysis of all COVID-19 related deaths occurring in Northern Ireland between 1 March and 31 August 2020 has been published on the Monthly Deaths page. This bulletin includes age-standardised analysis of COVID-19 related deaths relating to age, sex and different geographical areas including Local Government District, assembly area, area deprivation and by urban/rural residence.

A report on Excess deaths occurring between 1 March and 30 June 2020 in Northern Ireland is also available on the Monthly Deaths page.  This includes analysis by age, sex, deprivation quintile and different geographical areas.

Users interested in historical Weekly Deaths data for Northern Ireland can access weekly deaths by age, gender and NUTS3 (equivalent to LGD) for the period 2015-2019 via the EuroStat website.  Please note, the 'weeks' on the EuroStat website run from Saturday to Friday as do NISRA weekly deaths.  They are comparable.

Users may also wish to note that the historical weekly deaths spreadsheet has been enhanced to show the number of respiratory deaths each week over the years 2011 to 2019, as well as the average number of respiratory deaths registered in the corresponding week over the previous 5 years.  Weekly deaths by age has also been added.
