The tables containing data on deaths registered for the weeks up to week ending 29 August 2025 were released at 9.30am today.

Date of registration
- Please note that the total number of registrations in week 35 may have been impacted by the bank holiday office closure on 25 August 2025. Caution should be applied when comparing week 35 totals with previous weeks.
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 29 August (week 35) was 287, 45 less than the previous week (332).
- The number of expected deaths for week 35 was estimated at 309, using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 35 was estimated at -22.
- For the week ending 29 August 2025, the provisional number of deaths was 148 for males and 139 for females.
- The number of expected deaths was estimated at 156 for males and 153 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at -8 for males and -14 for females, using the current method.
- For 2025, by 29 August, 50.8% of deaths were males and 49.2% were females. Over two-thirds (66.2%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- In 2025, by 29 August, there have been 12,048 deaths registered. 5,652 (46.9%) of these took place in hospital, 2,058 (17.1%) in care homes and 4,338 (36.0%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.
- The number of deaths mentioning flu and/or pneumonia on the death certificate registered in week 35 2025 totalled 51, bringing the total for 2025 so far to 2,218.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 29 August (including those registered up to and including 3 September 2025) was 258.
