The tables containing data on deaths registered for the weeks up to week ending 18 July 2025 were released at 9.30am today.

Date of registration
- Please note that the total number of registrations in week 29 may have been impacted by the bank holiday office closures on 14 and 15 July 2025. Caution should be applied when comparing week 29 totals with previous weeks.
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 18 July (week 29) was 296.
- The number of expected deaths for week 29 was estimated at 340, using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 29 was estimated at -44.
- For the week ending 18 July 2025, the provisional number of deaths was 139 for males and 157 for females.
- The number of expected deaths was estimated at 171 for males and 169 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at -32 for males and -12 for females, using the current method.
- For 2025, by 18 July, 50.6% of deaths were males and 49.4% were females. Over two-thirds (66.5%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- In 2025, by 18 July, there have been 10,165 deaths registered. 4,748 (46.7%) of these took place in hospital, 1,741 (17.1%) in care homes and 3,676 (36.2%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.
- The number of deaths mentioning flu and/or pneumonia on the death certificate registered in week 29 2025 totalled 52, bringing the total for 2025 so far to 1,900.
