The use of administrative data in population estimates

A research paper on the creation of an Administrative Data Population Estimate (ADPE).

Purpose

This paper explores how administrative data can be used to estimate the population of Northern Ireland, offering an alternative or supplement to traditional census methods. It introduces a prototype Administrative Data Population Estimate (ADPE) and compares it with existing census and mid-year estimates.

Supporting documents

This paper was published on 27 October 2014 alongside The Future Provision of Census of Population Information for Northern Ireland. It outlines indicative proposals for the 2021 Census.
