Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2017, Regional Earnings

ASHE estimates for LGD and PCA, as well as for detailed occupation and skill levels were published today by the NISRA.

Weekly earnings highest for those who work in Belfast, almost £50 per week above the NI average

  • Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) results show that median gross weekly earnings for full-time employees in NI were highest for those who work in Belfast (£550) and Antrim and Newtownabbey (£518) Local Government Districts (LGDs). Only these two highest earning LGDs earned above the NI average of £501 per week.
  • Workers in the Causeway Coast and Glens LGD earned the least each week at £385 on average. This was the only LGD where earnings were below £400 per week on average.

Parliamentary Constituencies

  • Weekly earnings for full-time employees was highest in the East Belfast Parliamentary Constituency (£562) following a 5% increase over the year.
  • The lowest weekly earnings, were recorded in East Londonderry (£386). This was the only Constituency with median earnings less than £400.

Annual earnings

  • Median gross annual earnings for full-time employees was highest in Belfast LGD at £29,152. This is £3,153 above the NI average of £25,999. The lowest annual earnings were in Fermanagh and Omagh at £22,805.
