Flexible Table Builder updated with new variables and Data Zone geography aggregations.

Census 2021: Flexible Table Builder update was published at 9.30 am on 3 April 2024.

Users can build their own custom tables using new variables such as approximated social grade, former occupation, and former industry; or use new census Data Zone geography aggregations: Urban Status and 2011 Travel to Work Areas.

Census 2021 person and household estimates for postcodes in Northern Ireland were published on 29 February 2024, and include estimates of usual residents by sex and households for unit level postcodes, postcode sectors and districts in Northern Ireland.

Census 2021 Grid Square product for Northern Ireland

On 14 December 2023, Census 2021 Grid Square product for Northern Ireland was published. The product provides census statistics on a range of topics for populated 1km and 100m grid squares in Northern Ireland.

Customer requests

Our customer request function for census data, including Census 2021, is now open. Details on how to submit a request are available on our Census Commissioned Output page. The creation of commissioned tables is constrained by:

  • information that is available
  • availability of skilled staff to compile them
  • any similarities to what NISRA has already released or plans to release
  • statistical disclosure control

Please note, we may apply a charge for this service, depending on what you need and how long it would take us.

Census 2021 self-service products

We launched our Flexible Table Builder on 22 June 2023. This tool allows users to look at topics that are important to them, as well as build their own Census 2021 custom tables.

We've also updated our census area explorer tool. View a range of Census 2021 data for Northern Ireland, Local Government Districts, and down to Data Zone.
