706 complaints received by the Police Ombudsman between April and June 2025

New official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Northern Ireland Policing Board present details of complaints received by the Police Ombudsman.
Key findings:
- The Office received 706 complaints in the first quarter of 2025/26. This is a 1% decrease in the number of complaints received when compared with the same period last year. It is also the lowest number of complaints received in the first quarter since the 2020/21 year.
- 'Criminal Investigation' was the most common main complaint factor underlying complaints, accounting for three in every ten of complaints received during this time.
- The Office received 1,334 allegations in the first quarter of 2025/26. This is an 11% increase in the number of allegations received in the same period last year.
- 'Failure in Duty' was the most common allegation type received, accounting for just over half of allegations received.
