Public trust in NISRA statistics remains high at 83%.

New official statistics released today, present the latest findings on public awareness of NISRA and public trust in NISRA statistics, as well as the public’s view on the value of NISRA statistics, data confidentiality and political interference.
Key Findings
Trust in NISRA statistics: The majority of respondents (83%) trust NISRA statistics a great deal or tend to trust them. The level of trust increases to 92% for those respondents who have heard of NISRA by name.
Trust in NISRA: Trust in NISRA as an organisation is also high, with 79% of respondents trusting NISRA a great deal or tending to trust NISRA.
Awareness: Just over two in every five respondents (42%) indicated they had heard of NISRA before being contacted about the survey.
Value: Statistics produced by NISRA are valued – almost nine out of every ten respondents (87%) agree that statistics produced by NISRA are important to understand Northern Ireland.
Political Interference: Almost four out of every five respondents (78%) believe that statistics produced by NISRA are free from political interference.
Confidentiality: The majority of respondents (85%) agree that personal information provided to NISRA is kept confidential.
About the publication
The Public Awareness of and Trust in Official Statistics 2024 report presents findings from the Northern Ireland Continuous Household Survey on public awareness of NISRA, trust in NISRA and trust in NISRA statistics, as well as the public’s view on the value of NISRA statistics, confidentiality and political interference. It monitors change over time, and includes comparisons with the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Trust in NISRA is compared with trust in the NI Assembly, the media and the Civil Service.
The questions were asked between September and November 2024. The percentages are based on a representative sample of the population (1,162 persons) and are therefore estimates.
