The new experimental Claimant Count includes Jobseeker’s Allowance Claimants and those out-of-work Universal Credit claimants who were claiming principally for the reason of being unemployed.

Latest results

  • Over the month to April 2018, the number of people on the NI claimant count (experimental) increased by 200
  • Claimant count (29,000) was down by 2,300 over the year to April 2018 
  •  8% of the total unemployment benefit claimants were claiming Universal Credit
