Date published: 21 August 2025

Topics: Housing

New accredited official statistics published 21/08/2025 by NISRA statisticians in the Department for Communities indicate that between April and June 2025 there was one new social housing development programme (SHDP) start and 297 SHDP new social housing dwelling completions.

Key findings

  • The total number of applicants on the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) waiting list (with no existing NIHE/housing association tenancy) at 30 June 2025 was 49,129. Of these applicants, 37,939 households were in ‘housing stress’ and 32,159 had full duty applicant status.
  • In total, 4,097 households presented as homeless to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE). The household types with the highest proportion of homeless presenters were single males (33.4%) and families (28.6%).
  • The number of households accepted as full duty applicants was 2,748. The most common reason for presenting as homeless reported by full duty applicants was accommodation not reasonable (794).
  • During the quarter ending March 2025, 263 new National Housing Building Council (NHBC) registered dwellings were sold with an average price of £279,200.
  • In April - June 2025, the Affordable Warmth Scheme made improvements to 604 homes, while provisional spend to date for 2025-26 was just under £2.8 million.
