Registrar General Quarterly Tables 2024 Quarter 2

The Quarter 2 (April to June) 2024 Registrar General Quarterly Tables were published this morning at 9.30am.

Key points

The statistics show a provisional total of 4,365 deaths registered in quarter one of 2024.
At an overall level there were 1,105 (23.3%) deaths due to cancer, 995 (22.8%) deaths due to circulatory disease, and 566 (13.0%) deaths due to respiratory diseases (excluding Covid-19 deaths).
Looking in more detail the leading cause of death for all persons in Northern Ireland in quarter 2 2024 was dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. This was also true for females but for males the leading cause of death was ischaemic heart disease.
A total of 2,027 marriages were registered in quarter two of 2024, and 12 civil partnerships.
The number of births registered in quarter two of 2024 was 4,836, which is continuing the slight downward trend observed before the pandemic.
