Decrease in planning applications received during April to June 2025

New accredited official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Department for Infrastructure present information on planning applications received and decided in Northern Ireland.
Key findings:
- There were 2,416 planning applications received in Northern Ireland (NI) during the first quarter of 2025/26; a decrease of nearly two percent from the previous quarter and down by nearly five percent when compared to the same period a year earlier.
- In the first quarter of 2025/26, 2,270 planning applications were decided, a decrease of three percent from the previous quarter and down by two percent from the same period a year earlier.
- The average processing time for local applications brought to a decision or withdrawal during the first three months of 2025/26 was 19.8 weeks across all councils.
- Across councils 73.2% of enforcement cases were concluded within 39 weeks during the first three months of 2025/26, meeting the 70% target. This represents an increase from the rate recorded for the same period in 2024/25 (69.9%).
