92% of people feel safe in their own community

New official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Northern Ireland Policing Board present responses from a survey to explore public perceptions of the PSNI in policing and engagement with the community.
Key findings:
- 92% of people feel safe in their own community.
- 79.2% felt safe going into their local town centre.
- 60.6% thought police were not visible or not very visible in their local area.
- 67.5% were satisfied with the job the PSNI do in Northern Ireland.
- 61.4% were confident in PSNI’s ability to protect and serve.
- 63.8% thought the PSNI were engaged or very engaged with local communities.
About the publication
This report presents responses from a survey of 2,500 people in Northern Ireland and includes comparison with results from the 2023 and 2022 surveys. It also shows results from previous omnibus surveys which took place in 2014 to 2017. The purpose of the survey is to monitor outcomes of the Policing Plan and to explore public perceptions of the Police Service of Northern Ireland in policing and engagement with the community.
