During July to September 2025 (Q3 2025), 1,576 new dwellings were started and 1,379 new dwellings were completed in Northern Ireland.
Key findings
- 1,576 new dwellings were started in Q3 2025, up 3.5% from Q3 2024 (1,522) but still far below Q3 2005 (4,159) - a 62% decrease over two decades.
- Starts during Q3 2025 comprised 1,185 houses and 391 apartments, with apartments now making up 25% of starts, compared to 16% in 2005.
- Private/speculative developments remain dominant (1,355 in Q3 2025), while social housing starts (221 in Q3 2025) are broadly similar to 2005 levels (249).
- Completions during Q3 2025 totalled 1,379, down 15% from Q3 2024 (1,623) and 55% lower than Q3 2005 (3,092).
