Topic consultation

Our topic consultation in 2015 asked census users for their views on topics that the 2021 Census might cover.

We asked

On 25 September 2015, NISRA launched a consultation asking users of census statistics for their views on the topics that the 2021 Census questionnaire might cover. The consultation closed on 17 December 2015.

Participants were advised to read the topic consultation supporting information before responding, this included:

  • 2021 Census topic consultation document
  • 2021 Census topic consultation questionnaire
  • moderation policy
  • frequently asked questions

User engagement event

The 'Assessment of the responses received - Response to consultation' presents NISRA's full response to the consultation and provides an overview of the evaluation process we used to assess the responses and summarises the results. It sets out NISRA's updated view on the topics to be included in the 2021 Census, including a summary of proposals for new topics, next steps and an overview of our plans.

The exact content of the 2021 Census will only be finalised after further research, testing and consultation and will ultimately be subject to the approval of the Northern Ireland Assembly through secondary legislation.
