The Conduct of the 2011 Censuses in the UK Statement of Agreement of the National Statistician and the Registrars General for Scotland and Northern Ireland

Date published: 30 October 2015

Statistics: Census 2011,  2011 Census background

In 2011, the Registrars General of England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland agreed to conduct their Censuses simultaneously.

Overview

This coordinated approach aimed to enhance harmonisation across the UK and ensure the production of consistent, coherent outputs for both the UK as a whole and each individual country.

To support this goal, a series of UK-wide committees were established to explore key areas of census development. These groups focused on identifying opportunities to adopt common methodologies and align practices wherever possible.
