Details of the Survey
The Health Survey Northern Ireland aims to provide a picture of the health of the Northern Ireland population. It includes questions on general health and a wide range of health related issues such as smoking and drinking, fruit and vegetable consumption, stress, exercise, mobility and the use of some health services. The information collected is used to monitor the extent to which Government health targets are being met, and to help authorities effectively plan local health services.
The survey is commissioned by the Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety Northern Ireland and the field work is conducted by the Central Survey Unit of NISRA.
Received a letter?
One of our interviewers will visit in the next week or so. We understand you may be busy, so we’ll organise the interview at your home at a time that suits you. Your interviewer will ask you about a range of topics such as your eating habits, what exercise you have taken recently, whether you smoke or drink etc.
You can view the letters sent to respondents and alternative language versions here.
We select 5850 addresses at random every year from the list of all addresses in Northern Ireland held by the Land and Property Services. Our aim is to interview 4200 adults (aged 16 and over) resident at those households.
