PSNI recorded 5,015 injury road traffic collisions during 2025

New accredited official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) present information on road traffic collisions and casualties during 2025.

Key findings

During 2025:

• There were 5,015 injury road traffic collisions reported to the police, resulting in 7,879 casualties. This was an increase of around 5% on 2024, but remains markedly lower than ten years ago.
• Overall collision and casualty figures remain lower than before the pandemic. However, killed or seriously injured (KSI) collisions and casualties continue to remain above pre-pandemic levels.
• There were 56 road traffic fatalities, which was 13 fewer than the 69 recorded in 2024.
• The greatest number of KSI collisions occurred between 4pm and 5pm, with 84 collisions recorded during this period.
• The most common principal causation factor recorded for KSI casualties was “inattention or attention diverted”, with 115 KSI casualties.
