Over 71,000 emergency department attendances in June 2026

New official statistics in development published today by NISRA statisticians in the Department of Health present information on urgent and emergency care waiting times in Northern Ireland.
Key findings
In June 2026:
- There were 71,018 attendances at emergency departments.
- Median waiting time for patients to be triaged was 14 minutes from time of arrival.
- 42.8% of attendances were treated and discharged or admitted within four hours.
- There were 11,605 attendances where the patient waited more than 12 hours.
- Phone First received 17,698 calls, of which 67% resulted in a referral to an emergency department.
- 6.8% of attendances left the emergency department before completing treatment.

This statistical brief provides an overview of calls to Phone First and attendances at urgent and emergency care departments. It includes time spent in emergency departments and the performance of the Health and Social Care (HSC) trusts against the emergency care waiting times targets for 2026/27.
