New official statistics published by NISRA statisticians in the Department for Communities present information on liquor licences in Northern Ireland as at 31 December 2025.
Key findings
At 31 December 2025:
- There were 1,109 liquor licences for public houses and 692 for off-licences in Northern Ireland.
- The number of liquor licences for public houses decreased by 7%, from 1,192 in 2021 to 1,109 in 2025.
- The number of liquor licences for off-licences increased by 55 from 2021.
- Newry, Mourne and Down had the highest number of liquor licences for public houses, with 162.
- Fermanagh and Omagh had the highest number of public house liquor licences per 10,000 population, at 11.1.
- The split of liquor licences for public houses between rural and urban locations was 48% rural and 52% urban.
