Males made up 69.4% of first time entrants to the criminal justice system during 2024/25

New official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Department of Justice (DoJ) present information on first time entrants to the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland.
Key findings
During 2024/25:
- 5,141, or 69.4%, of first-time entrants were male. Figures for males also include organisations, transgender and gender not specified.
- 28,188 offences were recorded as dealt with by conviction or diversion in the justice system in Northern Ireland. Of these, 7,409 (26.3%) were first offences.
- Of first offences, 1,742, or 23.5%, were dealt with by formal diversionary disposal.
- 513 (85.6%) of first time entrants aged 10 to 17 received a diversion.
- 4,464 (60.3%) of first time offences were motoring offences.
