Highest speed recorded by Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership was 123mph in 2025

New official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership (NIRSP) present information on activities carried out by NIRSP during the calendar year 2025.

Key findings

During 2025:

• The highest speed recorded by NIRSP was 123mph.
• A total of 87,443 detections were made by NIRSP for speeding. This was the highest number of detections recorded in a calendar year since the scheme began.
• Of the 87,443 detections, 45,332 (52%) resulted in drivers completing a speed awareness course. A further 36,464 (42%) were issued with a fixed penalty notice, while the remaining 5,647 (6%) were referred for prosecution.
• There was a 4% increase in detections when compared with 2024 (84,004).
• There were 8,062 deployments of NIRSP vans in 2025, a similar number to 2024 when there were 8,017 deployments.
• Between 2024 and 2025, mobile speed camera detections increased by 5% to 86,628.
• Average speed camera detections decreased by 19% over the year to 815 in 2025.
