New accredited official statistics published today by NISRA statisticians in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) present information on police recorded road traffic collisions and casualties in Northern Ireland for the period 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.
Key findings
- In 2025, 56 people were killed and 1,066 were seriously injured on Northern Ireland's roads, a total of 1,122 killed or seriously injured (KSI), up 11.3% from 2024.
- Overall, 7,879 people were injured across 5,015 collisions, 5.1% more casualties than in 2024.
- Drivers accounted for over two-fifths of those killed or seriously injured (41.8%). Pedestrians were the second largest group of road users who were killed or seriously injured (19.0%), despite comprising only 7.7% of all casualties.
- Those aged 16-24 had the highest proportion of KSI casualties of any age group, at 227 (20.2%).
- There were 115 children under 16 killed or seriously injured, 22 more than in 2024.
- There were 17 fatalities in the 65 and over age group which was four fewer than 2024.
- Mid Ulster had the most road deaths (9); Derry City and Strabane recorded none. Belfast City had the highest number of KSI casualties (180).
- The most common principal causation factors for KSI casualties were "inattention or attention diverted" (115) and "wrong course/position" (95).
