If you intend to reuse, or publish Census data, a licence is required. Recipients of Census data are also required to comply with the standard Conditions of Supply which should then be passed to any 3rd parties receiving the data. Under the new licence scheme, introduced by HMSO on 1st April 2001, information produced for Government purposes is known as ´core´ data and is available for re-use and publication through ´click-use´ licences available from HMSO´s Web site. Specially tailored licences can also be obtained from HMSO´s Web site for the re-use of information that is not specifically produced for Government purposes (i.e. value added information) For more information about the scheme and how to obtain a copy of the ´click-use´ licence CLICK HERE. CONDITIONS OF SUPPLY FOR CENSUS INFORMATION Copies of Census related products and services, hereafter described as the products, are supplied by the Census organisations subject to the following general conditions:

People who do not have access to the World Wide Web should contact: Clauses in this “Condition of supply” should be included in any end user licence, which sets out the terms under which users/subscribers may access the content of such products and publications, as specified in clause 6.2 of the click-use licence. The source of the product should be prominently displayed on all products produced that contain Census information, e.g. “Source: 1991 Census, Small Area Statistics” Census products incorporate safeguards against possible identification of any particular person or household. The purchaser shall not use products to attempt to obtain or derive information relating specifically to an identified person or household, nor claim to have obtained or derived such information. The Census organisations will replace, free of charge, any medium on which the abstracts are supplied which is not in accordance with the specification given by the Census organisation, provided that the Census organisation is informed within a three month period following receipt of the abstracts. The Census organisation will not accept any responsibility for any loss or expense incurred consequent on the supply of faulty material or on inaccuracies in the information in the abstracts or on the physical condition of any medium on which the abstracts are supplied. The Census organisations use anti-virus software to safeguard against any viruses being included in the original material, but do not accept liability for any loss or damage arising from any virus present in the material. Cancellation of an order for any abstracts shall make the customer liable to pay any costs incurred by the Census organisations up until the time of cancellation.
