16/01/2008 Index of Services (IOS)
The Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) Statistics Research Branch are currently working towards the development of an index of services (IOS) to review and improve the indicators used to estimate short-term change in the Distribution and Services sector. The dominant components of gross value added (GVA) appear to be shifting from production to services with the service sector now accounting for approximately 3/5ths of total NI GVA. A Northern Ireland Index of Services (IOS) is a major step towards providing, for the service sector industries, the periodicity, range and quality of output indicators that have existed for the production industries for many years.
