The Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure (NIMDM) 2010 report was published on 26 May 2010. The NIMDM 2010 updates and replaces the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2005 as the official measure of spatial deprivation in Northern Ireland.
In November 2010 NISRA produced a
recommendations document which sets out the
recommendations for future deprivation measures.
Two public dissemination events were held in September and October 2010 to provide an overview of the updated deprivation measure and an opportunity to ask questions. NISRA would like to thank all who contributed to these events. Copies of the presentations are available for download below:

NISRA released the Northern Ireland Multiple
Deprivation Measure (NIMDM) 2010 results on 31st March 2010.
The
Super Output Area
(SOA) level results are available to download.
Also available are
maps of the
SOA multiple deprivation
measure and individual domains, a

and a
list of the indicators used in the updated
deprivation measure.

The
Northern
Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2010 report (also available

print) was published on 26
May 2010 along with further deprivation data at
Output Area,
Electoral Ward,
Local Government District and
Assembly Area levels.
A

of
indicators document and
a
guidance
leaflet are available. A more
comprehensive guidance document will be published in the Summer.
NISRA have produced NIMDM 2010 interactive maps (at Super Output Area and Output Area levels) and small area population estimate interactive maps. Please refer to the small area population estimates website for further information and small area population estimates data.
Update Process
The update to the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2005 was overseen by a project Steering Group. Statistical domain sub-groups provided data and advice on each of the individual domains of deprivation.
The
consultation
document was published on 27th July 2009; and the associated
consultation period ran from 27th July 2009 to 16th November 2009.
The consultation document was widely circulated with 600 hard copies
distributed and a further 550 documents downloaded. There were
three public consultation events held in Omagh, Lisburn and Belfast
which were attended by more than 100 people and at which 90 verbal
responses were noted. In addition 40 written responses were received.
The
responses to the consultation exercise and summaries of the events are also available.
The
blueprint document was published on 5th February 2010;
it details the indicators to be included in the updated Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure and summarises the
responses from the consultation exercise. A
large print blueprint document
is also available.
In keeping with equality guidelines a
policy screening form for the update to the measures has been completed.
It is not advised to compare the deprivation measures across the UK as data definitions, collection methods and base populations are not the same across Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. Also the UK regions have produced their measures in different years. For further details please refer to Indices of Deprivation across the UK.
